Slacker

Slacker, based on the 1990 movie of the same name, is a long-form format based on Follow the Leaver. In this show, scene changes occur only when a character exits. The scene ends, the exiting character is followed, and a new scene commences. Unlike Converging Scenes, there is no requirement to bring earlier scenes back into play; the performance is essentially a linear collection of scenes connected only by the characters who exit and begin a new scene. Scene length is varied, with some scenes being very brief, where one character starts a new scene, then a character quickly exits that scene and is followed to a new one.

The Beer Shark Mice version of Slacker (sometimes referred to as Slackerdash) is a longform improvised form built around the use of tag-outs to transition to new scenes. It is similar to a La Ronde, but with no restrictions with regard to the order of tag outs or the number of characters one might play. This form was brought to New York and taught at The Magnet Theater by Alex Marino.

The form is exceptionally flexible and is well suited for a wide range of team sizes, styles of play, time constraints and even stage sizes.
