A Queens, NY native, John Roukis is a proud New York City high school English teacher, two-time winner of the “New York’s Funniest Teacher Award” for stand-up comedy (Gotham Comedy Club and Stand-Up NY) and an improv comedy performer.

John began studying improv at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade in 1998 under the likes of Armando Diaz, Amy Poehler, and Ian Roberts. He performed on several UCB Harold Teams (Val-U-Pack, Ice-9 and C.H.U.D. (coached by Rob Corddry). He also regularly appeared in the improvised wrestling show, Piledriver (directed by Billy Merrit), and the two-person sketch show, Good Times, with Jessica Allen (directed by Patrick McCartney). John was also a member of the improv group, Plan B (Kurt Braunohler, Mike Gold, Dave Sepulveda, Dan Shaw and Jen Nails), and Adhesive (directed by Centralia’s Matt Higgins).

After taking a break from improv for a few years, John returned in 2005 and studied once again under Armando Diaz at the Magnet Theater, as well with Jean Villepique and James Eason. While at the Magnet Theater, John has performed in The Evente, The Armando Diaz Experience and on the Megawatt house teams, Dynasty, The Imposters and currently Chet Watkins.
