Get Up Get Down is a physical warmup created by David Christopher of Just The Funny.

Players stand in a circle. The group chants in a melodic way, "Get up. Get down. Make a movement and make a sound." During "get up" everyone raises their hands and stretches to the ceiling. During "get down" everyone reaches and bends to the floor. During "make a movement" everyone does a simple dance move (all the same). During "make a sound" everyone cups their hands around their mouths.

Once the first iteration of the chant is done, the first player makes any movement while making any sound. The full group repeats that movement and sound twice, then goes back to the chant.

The players continue around the circle until they feel like stopping.

Example

  • Everyone: "Get up! Get Down! Make a movement and make a sound!"
  • A: [takes one step forward and honks like a goose]
  • Everyone: [takes one step forward and honks like a goose two times]
  • Everyone: "Get up! Get Down! Make a movement and make a sound!"
  • B: [leans in with hands on sides of face and shrieks]
  • Everyone: [leans in with hands on sides of face and shrieks two times]
  • Everyone: "Get up! Get Down! Make a movement and make a sound!"

And so on...
