Five Dudes teamed up with Primal Bias to co-host a series of Saturday night shows at Under St. Marks from March 2006 through September 2006. An indie team always opened, bringing big crowds and helping to kick off an resurgence of indie improv teams (not associated with a particular theater) performing at Under St. Mark's Theater, The Red Room and Gotham City Improv. On Chris Gethard's suggestion, the first 20 people at each show received free 40 ounce malt liquors. For one Under St. Mark's show in which three of the five dudes were to be absent, Chris Gethard and Zach Woods made dreams come true by inviting some of their students to play with them under the name "Five Dudes and the Jr. Bacon Cheese Burgers."
Five Dudes was originally formed to be a collective of actors and writers who made short films. After writing numerous scripts, the group decided to do some improv shows to fuck around and blow off steam. They were met with a very warm reception that led to them only doing improv and never filming a single sketch they had written. They even registered www.fivedudes.com specifically to post videos, but never did so. Now, that website brings you to advertisements for gay pornography.
