Dominic is a stand-up comedian, improviser, and writer who has been performing at the UCB Theatre since 2003. He's studied improvisation with Matt Besser, Ian Roberts, Armando Diaz, Michael Delaney, Peter Gwinn, and Paul Scheer. Dominic can be seen performing improv on his Harold team The Law Firm and sketch comedy with his group Derrick Comedy. He has coached improv teams, directed sketch teams and is a sketch teacher at the UCB Theater.
Dominic is also a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the Renzo Gracie Academy. He joined amongst a crop of UCB performers who wanted to learn to be better fighters, although he and Chris Gethard were the only two to last a significant period of time. In the majority of their battles, Dierkes was able to submit Gethard, although he almost exclusively attacked Gethard's left elbow joint using armbars. Gethard contends that Dierkes knew of his weird elbows through their personal relationship and used the insider information to unfairly attack the joint.
Dierkes's best known improvisational work probably came with the highly influential fwand. Along with Kevin Hines, Dominic is credited as being one of the players most active in reigning in the team's notorious madness, helping to regulate it in ways that contributed greatly to Fwand's ability to perform actually comprehensible shows.
