David Sheperd (October 10, 1924 – December 17, 2018) was a pioneer of improvisational theatre, best known as a founding member of both the Playwrights Theatre Club and the Compass Players, the first two institutions dedicated to improvisational theatre in the United States. Years later, he was involved in the founding of what would become the iO theaters alongside Charna Halpern.
