Chimichanga
From IRC Improv Wiki
The "Chimichanga" is a music improv form developed by Travis Ploeger, and used in his show, iMusical: The Improvised Musical. It currently serves as the opening form for the show.
- After receiving the suggestion, a scene begins, underscored with music by the pianist.
- After a short but satisfying amount of time, this scene is sweep edited into another scene, with completely different improvisers playing completely different characters, still underscored.
- After another short but satisfying amount of time, this scene is sweep edited into a third scene, with completely different improvisers playing completely different characters, still underscored.
- After another short but satisfying amount of time, this scene is sweep edited, and Character A, from one of the first two scenes, initiates a verse/chorus song. She sings one verse and one chorus.
- Character B, from a different scene from Character A, joins Character A on stage, but in a split screen. He sings a second verse, and both characters sing the chorus together.
- Character C, from any previous scene, joins the others on stage, again in a split screen. She sings a bridge.
- Character D, from any previous scene, joins the others on stage, again in a split screen. He sings the fourth verse.
- All other characters (if any have yet to enter), join with their respective scene partners, and the entire company sings the final chorus, all remaining in their respective split screens.
- The last line of the chorus is repeated by Character A, with the entire company joining in for the last word/group of words.
Some notes about the Chimichanga:
- The scenes should be short, but should indicate the clear and clean details of a potential storyline, as this form may be used to establish the initial narrative choices for a show.
- Song entrances may be done by new characters that have been referred to by (or inferred from) the scenes.
