Blackout (concept)

A blackout is the final moment of an improv show, when the technical director pulls down the lights to end the performance. A tech will look for a "blackout line," which is also referred to as a "button" or a "tag." The blackout is the final edit of the show, bringing the final scene to a close. When performing without a technical director, ensembles will often "call" their own show, stepping out to end the final scene by announcing something like "and that's our show!"
